“AT THE VERY END WE ONLY REGRET THE THINGS WE DIDN’T DO”

How often has it been that the most important apparent commodity of life lies within touching distance only to realize when it is not there anymore.

Lets have a look at some of the occasions in which “What Might Have Been” applies accurately.

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY

It was June 27th 2010 and England were robbed from one of the most spectacular comebacks in history of the Fifa World Cup when Frank Lampard was denied the equalizer which could have brought England to 2-2 against a rampant German Side after being 2-0 down in under 20 minutes.

Goal Line Technology was not  mandatory till this point, The decision to disallow the goal resulted in England’s momentum to be halted and the player’s moral at hit rock bottom England lost the match 4-1 and were knocked out of the World Cup, Goal Line Technology was made mandatory for the upcoming World Cup but the question looms “WHAT IF” that goal was given? How would the German’s had reacted ? What would have been the final score line? But most importantly people wonder Why wasn’t Goal Line Technology implemented before this tournament. All these questions unfortunately will never be answered.

THE DARKEST DAY IN CRICKETING HISTORY

March 3rd 2009 was the day when Pakistan’s exile from any sort of sport (Specially Cricket) started. There are more than 1 reason why people didn’t want this test match to end the way it did.

Srilanka had scored 606 Runs in the first innings with Pakistan scoring 110/1  at stumps on day 2 of the second test.Fans were excited for the upcoming days as the contest was beginning to  shape into on of the most mouth-watering contest between 2 teams having players on the form of their lives.

The second reason is more significant as it was the last day Pakistan ever hosted a team in Whites and till this day no team has played a 5 day game on the sixth-most populous country of the world, which not only resulted in Pakistan losing it’s World Cup 2011 Matches but the national Cricket team was forced to play their scheduled “Home Matches” in away territory (Primarily UAE).

Still people wish that the incident never took place as it effected Pakistan heavily not only in the field of sports but also Tourism and Business development was effected.

ONLY THE BEST ONLY CHAMPIONS

Sticking with Cricket In 2008 India was schedule to host the inaugural edition of the Champions League T20. With teams from India (2) Australia (2) South Africa (2) England (1) and Pakistan (1) to be the participants. How ever days before the first match the Tournament was called off due to security concerns.

The tournament was postponed for one year before formally kicking off in 2009. But due to the political tensions between India and Pakistan,no Pakistani team was invited to take part in the Event. Pakistan had to wait for several years before a “weakened”Sialkot Stallions were allowed to participate in the 2012 edition (Hosted by South Africa).

However the question still looms “What if Sialkot Stallions were allowed to participate at their full strength” a question that will never be answered.
